Didcot Live – First Beer, Cider and Live Music Festival

We were invited to attend this bijou festival at Didcot Civic Hall yesterday, and what a delightful afternoon it was. It was our first time in the town and the journey through the Oxfordshire villages such as West Hagbourne was lovely. We were fortunate enough to be playing on the outdoor stage and our set was sandwiched between the hilarious Troubshort and Turnipseed (below) and the virtuoso solo guitarist, Rory Evans.

There was also of course a fine selection of beers and ciders on offer –

Thanks to Neil from Didcot Live for organising the whole event and to Colin our sound man for mixing us so well. We’re looking forward to playing at one of the regular Friday Didcot Live events at the Civic Hall in the future.

BEARWOOD SUMMER NEWSLETTER July 2013

Hello everyone

This is just a brief update to let you know what we are up to over the Summer which we trust you are all enjoying!

Firstly tomorrow Saturday 20th July we are performing at the famous Goring and Streatley Regatta. There will be varied musical entertainment all afternoon, from 12.00 to 6.00 with the headliners being Frankie Goes to Wallingford. Bearwood will be taking the stage for 45 minutes at 4.10pm. This promises to be a great afternoon out. Goring Gap Boat Club are pioneers in recreational rowing and deserve support for this super event. Their 2013 Regatta should prove to be a great family day out – including funfair, stalls, a beer tent and of course great rowing. To get more of a flavour, follow this link – http://new.goringgapbc.org.uk/regatta-2013/entertainment/

On Sunday 1st September we will be playing at the unique Weyfest Festival in Farnham (it’s not in a field!) Thanks to Vic Cracknell and Chris Ross for putting together the Rustic Stage and getting us on there – at around 1.30pm. Weyfest is a great eclectic music festival with headliners on the Friday The Stranglers, on the Saturday Echo and the Bunnymen, and on Sunday 1st UB40. Lots of other great acts too – I (Colin) am specially looking forward to seeing Strawbs and Vikki Clayton. See full line-up here http://www.weyfest.co.uk/

Then on Saturday 14th September it’s the inaugural South Hill Park Festival of Folk in Bracknell, put on by our friends at Artree Music. Bearwood will be playing out on the terrace at some point in the afternoon. Lots of free entertainment including a number of folk acts and Morris as well as all the craft stalls etc. There will be an impressive line-up for the ticketed event through the afternoon and evening in the Wilde Theatre, featuring Chris Ricketts, Green Diesel, Lucy Ward, Richard Digance, Spiers and Boden and Black Peak. http://www.southhillpark.org.uk/?lid=12971 http://www.festivaloffolk.artree.org.uk/line-up.html

The following Saturday 21st September is the much heralded new Folkstock Acoustic Festival. This promises to be a family-friendly extravaganza of folk and acoustic music. There will be a wide range of folk acts over four stages at Aldenham Country Park in Hertfordshire. A music-filled day with too many acts to take in  Headliners on the main stage include Kris Drever and Eamonn Coyne, Reg Meuross, Lucy Ward, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker. Bearwood will be playing on the “Folkstock Presents” stage, timing TBC. More information on http://www.folkstockfestival.com/

The Star Inn

We had a great night at The Star Inn, Waltham St Lawrence, on Wednesday 3rd April. It is a regular open mic event with a very broad range of music featured, including acoustic singer-songwriters, Americana, and classic rock. There was a warm fire and a super ambience. The Phil Oades Band start the evening and play tasteful bluesy west coast songs. Just to mention a couple of other acts – Mike Tuffery gave us some greats from the American Songbook and Stuart Walker played a lovely version of James Taylor’s ‘Carolina In My Mind’. We managed to fit three songs in – ‘Ye Jacobites’, ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ and ‘Burnmooor Tarn’. We hope to return, other Wednesday commitments permitting!
